Celebrities With Braces

According to the American Association of Orthodontists, over one-third of all orthopedic care patients in the US were adults 18 or older in 2020. And while emergency procedures may have contributed to that increase, the vast majority were for everyday routine maintenance and care. That includes braces and Invisalign® for adults, two of the more common choices for adult and teen orthopedic treatment. More specifically, that includes celebrities with braces.

Just how common are braces? Well, they’re no longer cumbersome in 2021. Nor are they even noticeable. Whether it’s a choice between traditional bracesretainers or new state of the art solutions like Invisalign®, there’s a much wider variety of treatments available for straightening and correcting your teeth than you might even be aware of. Or, exactly who might have worn them.

Believe it or not, some of the wealthiest and most visible celebrities in the world today have worn braces—including royalty. Nor are they shy about admitting it. But you don’t have to be a Hollywood A-lister to see your teeth benefit from braces. If you want a smile that looks just as good in the mirror as it does on the red carpet, find out which celebrities have worn braces.

  • Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani may be as well known for her singing as much as her colorful sense of style. But growing up, Gwen was allegedly unable to afford braces. It wasn’t until 1999 that the No Doubt singer finally opted to undergo orthopedic treatment, infamously showing up at high profile celebrity galas in pink hair and braces—at the age of 30. “The braces were like me coming home and being like, ‘You see this money I got?’” Stefani told Today in an interview.

  • Faye Dunaway

Legendary Hollywood icon Faye Dunaway has starred in over seventy classic films in her life. But she’s also living proof that you’re never too old for adult braces. Dunaway appeared at the premiere of The Fountain in 2006 sporting perfectly straightened teeth reportedly as a result of wearing braces at the age of 61. “You just sort of let your teeth go for a while. But it’s time to have something done,” the Daily Mail quoted the actress as saying. “Tom Cruise has them now, so I’m right in style.”

  • Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise is one of Hollywood’s most famous faces. But Cruise also suffered from misaligned and discolored teeth growing up, resulting in a prominent middle tooth that became almost as famous as his Golden Globe-winning roles. It wasn’t until the Mission Impossible star split with Nicole Kidman at the age of 40 that Tom finally chose to undergo treatment, appearing at the 2002 premiere of Minority Report proudly sporting a pair of fitted metal braces—much to the delight of both the press and millions of fans.

  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Tom Cruise may be Hollywood royalty. But actual living royalty have also benefited from orthopedic treatment with braces. Just ask Prince Harry, who felt no embarrassment about appearing in photographs wearing metal braces along with his brother William in 1999. Or his wife Meghan Markle, whose million-dollar smile is reportedly the result of teenage braces as well as adult veneers. But imperfect teeth seem to run in the family. Even Queen Elizabeth II has been forward about her own experience growing up with metal braces. “‘I had wires,” the reigning British monarch told a group of children being fitted for braces in London in 2020. “I think it’s worth it in the end.”

  • Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage is one celebrity who has never been known for giving an understated performance. But that isn’t why he was photographed subtly wearing braces only on his bottom teeth at a 2002 premiere. The reason is more common than you might think. Cage waited until he was 39 years old to fix a notorious overbite he had since he was a child—decades after his career as an international superstar.

  • Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner may be worth $45 Million, but her smile may be priceless. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star and runway model received her first set of braces at the age of 13 before switching over to Invisalign® aligners when she was 17. Nor was she particularly embarrassed or shy, as pictures show. In fact, Kendall’s braces were only a minor inconvenience for a woman ranked as the world’s highest paying model in 2018!

  • Venus and Serena WIlliams

The Williams sisters are practically synonymous with professional tennis. But did you know that the two twins also wore metal braces growing up? While their smiles dazzle both on and off the court, they’ve been open about their experiences as budding Olympic medal winners. And it certainly hasn’t halted their sportsmanship—or their self esteem. “I was a teenager with braces and into sporty dresses with bright colors and cut-outs,” Venus told Elle magazine in 2013.

  • Justin Bieber

The Canadian pop superstar was already riding high in the spotlight when he elected to wear clear Invisalign® aligners in lieu of braces at the age of 15. Like many teens and pre-teens, Justin also experienced crowding, a common condition occurring when bottom and upper teeth fail to align properly. But today, the 2021 VMA Artist of the Year retains a fan base of devoted “Beliebers” numbering in the millions worldwide—as much for his music as for his highly publicized charitable efforts.
