Phase 1 Treatment
The goal of Phase One treatment is to help the jaw develop in a way that will accommodate all of the permanent teeth and improve the way the upper and lower jaws fit together. Children often exhibit early signs of jaw problems as they grow and develop. An evaluation at age 7 will determine whether a patient is a candidate for early interceptive treatment. Expansion of the upper and lower arches for over-crowding is often a main component of phase 1 treatment. In addition the early correction of openbites, deep bites, posterior and anterior cross-bites are often addressed.

Resting/Montoring Period:
After completion of Phase 1 treatment, all active appliances are discontinued to allow the remaining permanent teeth erupt on their own with the new room provided. Retaining devices may or may not be recommended as sometimes they can interfere with eruption of the permanent canines and premolars. Patients are monitored periodically to as growth and development and the eruption of the permanent teeth continues.

Phase 2 Treatment
The goal of the second phase is to finalize all tooth positions in the upper and lower jaws. This second phase of treatment is usually shorter and easier then general comprehensive treatment due to the corrections that were made in the first phase. Phase 2 treatment can be accomplished traditionally with upper and lower braces or with Invisalign clear aligners.
