How is Invisalign different than braces?

It is different in every which way possible. Traditional braces (and clear braces as well) are a system of brackets, wires and elastics that are attached to the outer surface of teeth. These exert a pulling motion so that the teeth move to the desired location. Invisalign has none of that. It is a system of clear, transparent molds called aligners. The aligners fit the outer surface of the teeth (without attachment) and apply pressure rather than a pulling motion to move the teeth.

Lingual braces are similar to traditional braces, only attached to the inner surface of the teeth. They are a better option esthetically, but still very uncomfortable to wear.

• Accuracy:

  Traditional braces are quite accurate. However, there is still a – slight – possibility of error. None of that with Invisalign. The aligners are computer-made, improving accuracy to a great extent.
